ployed in these matters, the ability and industry of Mr. Ho Tsz-ang, the Senior Instructor, have been conspicuous and universally acknowledged Mr. Tung bien Kang, the Junior Instructor, was unfortunately obliged by ill-health to return to China, but arrangements have been made to fill his place.

The total cost of the Department has so

far been kept within the bounds of the annual subscriptions, which do not apparently quite reach the sum guaranteed for five years by the China Association, but it cannot be too earnestly pointed out that full efficiency and ultimate success can only be assured by a settled constitution, a permanent home, and a fixed endowment. Recent applications show that there is every prospect of an increased number of students for the coming year.
